Navy combat aircraft distinguished themselves in the Gulf War, but
the end of the Cold War resulted in substantial reductions of
military budgets. Many have criticized the navy for
maintaining it's expensive nuclear carriers when their is no
potential enemy in site. One result is a substantial
reduction in the number of new aircraft. The current trend
is to develop and purchase less planes, but have them be more
versatile. |
