Canadair Ltd CL-215
The Canadair CL-215 is a fire-control amphibian.  It has been called ugly, but is very efficient.  It is the only aircraft designed primarily for firefighting. It can fly low over the surface of water and "scoop up" a load of water.  In many countries firefighting aircraft are operated by the military, such as in Greece, Yugoslavia and Thailand.  Built in Canada, this twin engine plane was developed in 1969.  It carries a crew of two and cruises at 290 miles an hour.
